Student Exchange Program

Check out tips for your planning

3 minute read

The possibilities are endless, such as: learning a new language, taking a free course, studying at a university, and even undertaking educational tourism, popularly known as "backpacking".

Studying in another country allows you to experience a new culture, meet new people, and bring numerous benefits to your career.

Here are some tips to help you plan:

Define the language and city

There are courses and universities that require a predetermined level of proficiency to take them.  Make sure that you have the minimum prerequisites to apply for enrollment in one of these modalities.  If your goal is to learn a new language, it is usually necessary to take a level test before classes start, to determine the class you will be part of.

When researching, find out more about the city and country you want to live in, and about the extracurricular and leisure activities that you can do outside the classroom. Joining social media groups and forums to chat with people who already live in the place can be very helpful in helping you decide.

Define the teaching institution and the accommodation

Choosing the university or institution is fundamental and they must be aligned with your objective.  It is also very important to define the type of accommodation you will be staying in.  The options include dormitories in universities, apartments or shared houses and, for your decision, take into account your profile and the type of experience you are looking for.

Required documentation and visas

Consult the website of the desired institution and a student exchange agency to assist you in this process. You need to know whether the destination country / city requires a visa for entry and stay; understand if the visa granted allows you to work or just study.
You may need, for instance, to translate diplomas and prove that you have the total investment in a bank account, to prove your objective in the country.
Another very important item is to leave a power of attorney for someone to legally represent you in Brazil.

Educational Tourism

This modality can last for 1 month or up to 1 year and aims to visit multiple countries and multiple cities.  It is essential for this type of trip to have a defined planning of the destinations, accommodations, and activities that you want to carry out in the period.
